Suited to anyone of any ability wishing to explore Wildlife filmmaking.

The 3 day wildlife filmmaking workshop is aimed at beginners and wildlife enthusiasts who would like the chance to experience and improve fieldcraft, filmmaking and storytelling skills whilst being immersed in Mull’s wildlife under the supportive eye of a course mentor.

The course is suitable for complete novices, competent amateurs or individuals looking to spend guided time filming wildlife on Mull. Everyone is welcome regardless of age or ability. The course is relaxed, fun, informative and exciting. You will produce a short film and be advised on filming techniques, fieldcraft and audio production. You will shoot footage that excites you and you’ll leave the island feeling motivated and better equipped to carry on storytelling through your filming and photography.

The emphasis is less on the technical aspect on filmmaking and more on storytelling of the natural world.

Here’s a film made by Adam Johnston.

The 3 days are lead by filmmaker, S-J Cooper-White.

“Thanks so much for an incredible time on the Isle of Mull! Your hospitality made me feel right at home and despite some epic rain I really enjoyed creating my film. I learnt so much about storytelling and it was really fun to use the professional equipment. I would highly recommend the course to anyone interested in developing their interest in filmmaking.” Lizzie Coney

We may film in several different locations on the island and will be lead by your interests and ambitions.

The welfare of the wildlife comes first, at all times. We will discuss ethics, good fieldcraft behaviour, safety, audio, creativity, editing, storytelling, narration, planning and much more.

Before you arrive you will work directly with the director, via email, to storyboard what you want to film and explore ideas of how to make it work as an interesting short film.

You may bring your own camera if it has video capability.

“Thanks for a FAB course and I will hopefully now put what I have learnt about storytelling into practice.” George.
